Golfers Raise Funds for Fatherhood Programs at The Village

August 1, 2018

A nearly picture-perfect day in June found 114 golfers enjoying 18 holes of golf for The Village’s 8th annual Foursomes for Fatherhood Golf Classic. Held at the lush Shuttle Meadow golf course in Kensington, the event raised more than $90,000 for fatherhood programs of The Village for Families & Children.

“Sorry for the waterworks,” Mark Montalvo apologized later to a packed – and quiet – room during dinner.
It was an emotional evening as Mark nervously shared his story about how building a strong bond with his daughter also brought him closer to own father, who had largely been absent when Mark was a child. Mark credits Edwin Castro, a Village family support specialist, with helping him strengthen both relationships.

“Our work is not possible without the support of so many corporations, small businesses and individuals. As families’ needs become more complex and we try and find new, effective ways to help them, it’s great to know we have such a loyal and strong base of support behind us,” said Village president Galo Rodriguez.

The golf tournament was led by a volunteer committee: Brian Reilly, chair, Andrew Baldassarre, Tom Byrne, Tom Daugherty and Larry Gavrich.

The presenting sponsor was Travelers. Gold sponsor was KPMG; silver sponsors were Ernst & Young, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Thomas Byrne Associates, and Trinity Health – St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center.
