Every child deserves a safe and loving home. The Village works with families whose children are at imminent risk of placement outside of the home to stabilize and strengthen family functioning. We also recruit, screen, train and support foster and adoptive families, ensuring a nurturing environment in which children – and their caregivers – can thrive.
The Village’s Adoption Services provide two types of service:
Adoption – helps individuals and couples create or expand a family through adoption; the program also provides support to children and families.
Search – provides vital background/medical information to adoptees and helps adoptees and birth parents search for one another for the purpose of reuniting.
The adoption program provides comprehensive adoption services to prospective and adoptive parents including training, preparation and home study services. Grief and loss counseling is provided to adoptive children to help them with the loss of their birth family. Services also support adjustment and attachment to the adoptive family.
The program serves children ages 18 and under who are in the care of the Connecticut Department of Children and Families who are in need of a permanent home. Adoption services can also assist individuals and couples who are seeking to adopt an infant outside of Connecticut.
Adoption Services assists adult adoptees and birth parents with all aspects of the search process including support, reunion registry, non-identifying information and full search services.
The program serves all individuals who have ever been adopted through The Village as well as all birth parents who have placed their child for adoption through The Village.
More information about adopting a child or search services can be found here, or by contacting The Village’s Permanency Department at 860-236-4511.
