Wanita is a health care leader with 20+ years in varying administrative and operational roles. In her current role as the administrative lead for the Department of Medicine, she is responsible for the administrative, clinical, research, and academic activities, as well as the overall vision and growth trajectory of the Department. The Department of Medicine is the largest department at Hartford HealthCare, and plays an integral role in patient care provision to almost every service offered at Hartford Hospital. The Department consists of thirteen Medicine Specialties and subspecialties; as well as footprints in both the acute and ambulatory care settings.
Prior to joining Hartford HealthCare in 2021, Wanita was at UConn Health for sixteen years, where she began her tenure as a Business Analyst in Revenue Cycle and progressed into various leadership roles. Over the past ten years, she served as the Director of Financial Operations at the NEAG Comprehensive Cancer Center, overseeing strategic initiatives for the twelve sub-service lines encompassed by Hematology and Oncology and including the New England Sickle Cell Institute (NESCI). In this role, she oversaw staff of multiple units including Radiation Oncology, Infusion, clinical trials, grants and research.
Wanita has been involved with a wide variety of community organizations including the American Cancer Society (ACS), CT Breast Health Initiative, The Ron Foley Foundation, a mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and Grace Academy. She was honored with the class of 2017 as a 100 Women of Color for creating programs bringing awareness to the importance of screening and prevention for early detection of cancer, specifically in underrepresented communities.
Her greatest passion is parenting her two daughters with her husband of twenty years.
