Gary M. Steck is a Connecticut Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and serves as Chief Impact Officer of The Village for Families & Children, a role he assumed in July 2026. Prior to joining The Village, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Wellmore Behavioral Health (Wellmore, Inc.) from 1999 to 2026. Wellmore, an affiliate of The Village, is a Waterbury-based provider of mental health, substance use recovery, and support services for children, adolescents, and adults throughout western Connecticut.
Under his leadership, Wellmore grew into a leading behavioral health organization operating nine locations throughout western Connecticut. The organization serves as the Emergency Mobile Psychiatric Services provider and Urgent Crisis Center for the region’s 43 towns. Mr. Steck was also among the early responders following the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Mr. Steck earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Connecticut and has dedicated more than 38 years to community behavioral health as a clinician, leader, and advocate. He remains actively involved with charitable, faith-based, educational, and professional organizations and currently serves on the Community Board of St. Mary’s Hospital. Throughout his career, he has served on the boards of numerous nonprofit organizations, including as Chair of the Board of the Connecticut Community Provider Association.
A recognized leader in behavioral health and public policy, Mr. Steck has contributed to dozens of local and statewide committees and task forces focused on early childhood education, mental health, addiction, child welfare, and public health. He is frequently invited to testify before policymakers and speak on topics including crisis services, child abuse prevention, and recovery from mental health and substance use challenges.
A Waterbury native, Gary resides in Bristol, Connecticut, with his wife, Michelle, and their children.
