The Second Chance Shops Begin to Reopen Their Doors

May 27, 2020

The Village—and the children and families we serve—are fortunate to have the support of more than 500 volunteer Auxilians, who, among other efforts, run our Second Chance Shops in Glastonbury, Simsbury, Suffield and West Hartford. Last year, the Auxiliaries contributed $342,000 to The Village. These funds help us build the health and stability of families throughout the region.

While the shops are temporarily closed in response to the Governor’s executive orders, Auxilian leaders are eager to get the shops back up and running again. And after consulting with UCONN Health epidemiologist Dr. Kevin Diekhaus about important measures to consider as they reopen, each shop has been carefully planning steps to ensure the safety of all patrons and shop volunteers.

At this time, the West Hartford Second Chance Shop, located at 175 Park Road, plans to reopen at the end of June, and the Glastonbury shop, located at 730 Hebron Avenue, plans to open after July 4. The Simsbury shop, located at 12 Station Street, and the Suffield shop, located at 116 Mountain Road, plan to open around Labor Day. All shops will reopen with reduced hours. While the shops are not currently accepting donations, more information will be available soon when donations resume.
