Statistics show that truancy has devastating effects on both the student and the community.

The Village’s truancy prevention program – at Alfred E. Burr School, Milner Middle School, M. D. Fox Elementary School and Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School – is helping Hartford students improve their attendance, academic performance and social connection.

Recently, The Village’s Aldwin Allen, Senior Director of Community Programs, participated in the Hartford Public Schools’ special panel discussion about attendance and reducing chronic absenteeism. Mayor Luke Bronin reiterated his commitment to the issue, and Superintendent Torres-Rodriguez pledged to “continue, in partnership with our families, teachers, our community, and our leadership team, the focus on chronic absenteeism.”
