Nearly 350,000 households in Connecticut are eligible for the 2022 Connecticut Child Tax Rebate, though only about 150,000 have applied as of July 15 according to the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services. As the July 31 application deadline approaches, The Village for Families & Children, United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut and the City of Harford have partnered to help as many eligible families as possible apply before time runs out.
During a press conference on Friday The Village shared that walk-in appointments are available for people who need help completing the online application on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Village South, located at 331 Wethersfield Ave, from 9:00am to 4:00pm now through the deadline.
“This tax rebate can make a huge different to working families in our city, especially as we deal with rising costs of groceries and gas,” said Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin. “I encourage all of our residents with children to apply for this rebate by filling out the application on the DRS website by July 31st. I want to thank Governor Lamont and our state delegation for delivering real relief, up to $750, to Connecticut families. I’m also grateful to the United Way and to The Village for Families & Children for offering their assistance to help Hartford families take advantage of this tax rebate.”
The Child Tax Rebate is a one-time rebate of up to $250 per child (maximum amount of $750 for up to three children) intended to assist low- and moderate-income Connecticut families with children.
“The Child Tax Rebate will be an important boost for families, and we’re committed to helping our community access this crucial resource,” said Village President & CEO Galo Rodriguez. “At The Village, we recognize that financial health has a significant impact on mental and physical wellbeing. That’s why we’ve set up walk-in availability to help families access the application, answer their questions and connect to more free financial resources we offer at The Village.”
To receive this benefit, families must apply for the rebate online at ct.gov/drs by July 31, 2022. The payments will be distributed between August and September 2022.
“At United Way our mission is to bring people and resources together for the well-being of children and families. Part of that is ensuring that opportunities are available for children to succeed academically and families to achieve financial security. One way we do this is by ensuring that people access the refunds and credits they have earned and are eligible for. The CT Child Tax Rebate is a much-needed income support that could be significant to many Connecticut families – but they must secure it first. We have partnered with The Village and the City of Hartford to make sure families are aware and able to get this support at a time when many are struggling to make ends meet.” said Eric Harrison, President and CEO, United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut.
